Something I spend a lot of time explaining to buyers relocating to Austin is how property taxes work in Texas.

Because Texas doesn’t have a state income tax, property taxes often surprise buyers moving from places like California or Colorado.

The tax rate can also vary significantly depending on:

• county
• school district
• whether the home is in a MUD district
