For years, moving west was mostly a lifestyle conversation.

Lake Travis. Hill Country views. Schools. Bee Cave. Lakeway. Dripping Springs.

Now we need to add something else to that list:

jobs.

In 2026, aerospace and defense technology company CesiumAstro announced a major expansion of its Bee Cave operations.

The company acquired nearly 270,000 square feet of additional space and announced approximately $500 million in investment over five years. It expects to add roughly 550 jobs and grow its Austin-area workforce to more than 1,000 employees by 2030.

That’s a meaningful shift for West Austin.

If you work in Bee Cave, living in Lakeway, Dripping Springs, Southwest Austin or along the Lake Travis corridor creates a very different commute than it does for someone working Downtown or in North Austin.

That’s why I think we’re going to stop talking about one generic “Austin commute.”

Austin is becoming a network of employment centers.

And when a company commits hundreds of millions of dollars, physical facilities and hundreds of jobs to one area, I pay attention.

West Austin has always had the lifestyle.

Now it’s adding another piece of the growth story: jobs.
