Anyone who has lived west of Austin knows the Y.

For years, US 290 and Highway 71 in Oak Hill were synonymous with traffic. Now the approximately $731 million Oak Hill Parkway project has fundamentally changed that gateway.

But the bigger story is what happens when you keep driving west.

Oak Hill.

Belterra.

Headwaters.

Dripping Springs.

And farther toward Driftwood and the Hill Country.

Thousands of families have moved this direction looking for newer homes, more space, schools and a different lifestyle.

And eventually, rooftops attract everything else—grocery stores, restaurants, medical offices, services and employers.

That creates a familiar cycle: housing grows, commercial development follows, traffic increases and infrastructure has to catch up.

TxDOT is already studying additional improvements farther west between Oak Hill and Dripping Springs as growth continues.

So I don’t see Oak Hill Parkway as the end of this story.

It’s part of a much larger westward expansion.

If you’re considering this area, don’t just ask, “How far am I from Downtown?”

Ask where you work, where your kids go to school, where you shop and where new services are being built.

Oak Hill once felt like the edge of Austin.

It doesn’t anymore.
